Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis throughout the world and is a leading cause of disability in our adult population.
The Osteoarthritis Research International (OARSI) an international, multi-disciplinary committee of experts analyzed recent evidence-based research on osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee. The OARSI committee recommendations were published in 2008. The majority of treatment recommendations were non-pharmacological and non-invasive in nature and form the core of PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM FOR KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS.
Physical therapists are best positioned to administer the majority of treatments suggested.
A patient admitted to our program is required to make a formal six-week commitment. Attending sessions three times a week with a physician's prescription is required. THE PHYSICAL THERAPY PROGRAM FOR KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS will include the following:
- Education and self - management techniques
- Regular phone contact (from our staff to ensure compliance with the program)
- Physical Therapy
- Weight Reduction
- Evaluation for walking aides
- Braces
- Footwear and insoles*
- Thermal modalities
- TENS
